St. Timothy’s Church is forming a new community of faith in Tulsa, Oklahoma. If you are looking for a church home, we want you to consider joining with us. We are a Spirit-filled church of the Anglican tradition. We are evangelical, liturgical, and sacramental. We believe and proclaim that the Answer to the needs of a darkening 21st Century world is still Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone. We’re Beyond Contemporary - We’re Liturgical! "Liturgy" simply means "the work of the people" and from the very beginning was synonymous with the terms "worshipping God" and "ministering to the Lord." Every church, denominational or non-denominational, casual or ceremonial, has some sort of order to their services. After all, the music and the announcements and Scripture readings and sermons and ministry all have to fit in together somehow, in a logical procedure conducive to worship. Week after week, it is just the way things get done, whether or not one understands why it’s done in just that way. A liturgical service is one that chooses to follow a structure and format whose roots are deep in the same Judaic worship services Jesus and the disciples attended. The early Church developed its celebration of the Eucharist (from the Greek “Thanksgiving”) based on these biblical services, and continued to follow this form for 2,000 years. At St. Timothy’s we follow this ancient liturgical format with spontaneity and warmth, celebrating the Presence of the Lord in our praise and worship, and minister with power through the gifts and anointings of the Holy Spirit. Any Bible-Believing Christian from any age, from the 1st to the 21st Century, could walk into services at St. Timothy’s and feel right at home. When you visit St. Timothys, you will feel at home, too. “We Hold These Truths to Be Self-Evident . . .” and Non-Negotiable We hold certain truths to be non-negotiable - truths that have been held precious by genuine Christians through the ages. At St. Timothy’s, we are unashamed to declare our fidelity to the Word of God. We acknowledge our profound appreciation and respect for the Bible-based traditions that have sustained the Church through the persecutions of countless regimes, and foundational truths that are eloquently expressed in the three historical declarations of faith: the Apostle’s, the Nicene, and the Athanasian Creeds. Our Music is Not Just for One Age Group - it Spans the Ages! At St. Timothy’s, we believe the purpose of the ministry of music is to help and to enable the congregation to enter the very throne room of Almighty God Himself, and to join the Church in praises and worship at His feet. To accomplish this, we will gladly use every means we have at our disposal, including a wealth of knowledge of, and experience in, a rich heritage of centuries of sacred music. We will use expressions of praise old and new, from multiple cultures, and in languages known and unknown. Musicians at St. Timothy’s will be held to the high standards of excellence of spirit first, and then excellence of sound. Everything that we do is to be presented with such professionalism that all attention is centered on the Lord, and not on the performer. Following the wise instruction of Psalm 100, we may make a joyful noise unto he Lord with elementary-age kazoo quartets with flutaphone flourishes. We may come before His Presence with the singing of a capella folksongs, or with Handel’s “Messiah.” We may enter His gates with the thanksgiving of rock and roll set free. And we are prepared to jam in the courts of the Lord with the triumphal praises of the Doxology. All as the Spirit leads. If you are a musician with a heart of praise, and are not very comfortable in your pigeonhole, please contact us. St. Timothy’s Music Ministry is still in its formation stages, and we need you. All Kids Are Welcome - Even Yours Because he has lived a lifetime dealing with physical and learning difficulties himself, our pastor, Fr. Joseph J. Mathy, Jr., has an understanding heart for others with special challenges. He has charged us to develop a curriculum that can both build up the simplest and hone the gifts of genius, and to train up a teaching staff that can cope with occasional behavioral episodes with patience and discernment. At St. Timothy’s, our desire is to make fellowship with God, effectual knowledge of His Word, and training and experience in the ministry of the Gifts of His Spirit accessible to all, young or old. At every level, our primary purpose is to teach the Word of God. Our goal is to enable all to read it, mark it, learn it, and make it an integral part of our very existence. We Can Celebrate the Sacraments While You Sit on the Floor At St. Timothy’s we understand how very hard and distracting it can be at times to sit still with your hands folded in your lap for the whole service. We neither expect it nor require it. Fortunately, as Anglicans, we tend to move about a bit in the service, anyway. We stand to praise and at the reading of the Gospels. We kneel to pray. We bow in adoration at times, overcome with the enormity of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done to save us. It is not so much the location of your body as it is the focus of your spirit that is essential to worship. If you (or your children) are most comfortable sitting on the floor, by all means, make yourself at home. Just keep the aisle clear so that the people are unhindered and the Fire Marshall is happy. Does Tulsa really need another church? We think so, if that church is a safe place to come and learn how to live a life of faith. We are building a community centered in worship, where together we simply live out the Christian life as we find it in the Word of God - simple obedience, simple faith, love and respect among the members, personal growth, and care for the community in which we live. All may come, and all are welcome. |
